ABRAR H HASHMI  Joined as Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal in April 2023. Before this assignment he was Consul General in Houston (USA). He is a career diplomat, who joined Federal Service in 1988 and Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1999. He was born on 18 April 1970 in Abbottabad (Pakistan).

Qualification:

He is Masters in International Policy; Masters in Diplomacy from Australian National University; Bachelors in Science from Peshawar University; and was a Fellow on “Fresh water diplomacy” at NPSIA Carleton University, Ottawa (Canada) during 2016-18.

Professional Experience:

 

A    Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad (Pakistan)

  1. Director General (2016-2019) responsible for providing services to the Foreign Diplomatic Missions in Pakistan;
  2. Alongside as lead person, he helped craft and implement Pakistan’s E-visa (PoVs) globally;
  3. Director Kashmir & India (2009-10) dealing with bilateral political issues.
  4. Director (Personnel) and Director to the Special Secretary (2006-07);
  5. Assistant Director dealing with Kashmir dispute and human rights etc;
  6. Desk Officer (Southeast Asia & Pacific) covering bilateral & ASEAN matters.

 

B     At Pakistan Missions Abroad

  1. Consul General in Houston covering 10 southern States of USA (2020-23);
  2. Counsellor at High Commission of Pakistan, Ottawa from October 2015-September 2016.
  3. Acting High Commissioner to Canada also covering Trinidad and Tobago from August 2014-September 2015.
  4. Counsellor (2010-2014) at Pakistan High Commission, New Delhi, responsible for political dialogue process, trade, visa, and cultural cooperation;
  5. Second Secretary (2003-06) Beirut, Lebanon covering the Republic of Cyprus;
  6. Third Secretary (2001-2003), Embassy of Pakistan, Kuwait where he also attended Kuwait University learning Arabic language.

 

Ambassador Hashmi has been a resource person on freshwater diplomacy in Track-II & 1/2 dialogues with Atlantic Council, Stimson Centre and IMWI, etc.

 

He is happily married to Samiya Abrar. They have three University going daughters.
